Hockey Jesus:

Hey SportsPorchers, it's your Hockey Jesus with Game 60, Pittsburgh Penguins versus the Columbus Blue Jackets. Well, I'm just going to be going audio again today. Still got a computer issue, so I can't get the video up. But I can tell you tonight, Pittsburgh Penguins did rebound finally after a three-game skid where they pretty much took care of business versus Columbus. Gotta figure they can bounce back against a team like Columbus, especially with a team like Columbus where Line A and Panerians are not in the lineup. I mean, without those two guys in the lineup, that Columbus team really has no talent to really speak of. Alex Nylander, who we basically gave to them a couple weeks ago for Bemstrom, had a hat-trick in the game last night. Plus, they were playing on the back-to-back. I actually thought the game still wasn't a great game for the Pens, and this is why. They're actually finally getting to their game, I think, in the first period. 2-0 at the end of the first is not like them. The Pittsburgh Penguins are not a first period team. Usually they're a second period team, but it seems like they're getting their game a little bit quicker. you know polio rv gotta give away which helped any be buried it but that's the important thing like a guy like polio rv uh… is gotta get some confidence you know he was going to do that as he puts the puck in the back in the net i'd like to see him score that thought that was a good a good goal for him in the gino of course two games in a row now he's got he's got uh… goals maybe he's gonna get hot i mean i think it's still too little too late but a hot gino and look you saw what can happen with these pittsburgh penguins when that second line when gino and riley smith who had three points tonight can get going this is the team that we thought we were going to see year-long you know scoring five goals getting scoring from first and second line all the first line sids definitely in a funk not knowing what's happened with happening with jake mail potentially most likely getting treated this week clearly that's affecting sydney crosby's up uh… production on the ice i think he did get an assist on on one of the power play goals uh… but still uh… unlike you know it it's tough i think it's really probably tough on said i know you know he's he's the consummate professional he's not going to complain but Plus, let's face it, he's really got nobody up there playing. Raquel's up there for a little while and I guess he wasn't out in the second period. They dropped Drew O'Connor down the center to the third line so that Eller could play with him. Lars Eller is your wingman after you're used to playing with Rust. Jake that's that's that's quite a that's quite a down that's quite a down move with guys playing with Sidney Crosby but look they get off to a good start they get to nothing and then boom boom in the second period the the game's all tied up 2-2 and that's unfortunately been very typical of these Pittsburgh Penguins they get up they get a two goal lead they let one in they let another one in and then the other teams right back in it I'm telling you, if it wasn't for that dumb power play that Raquel scored, really, it was good Branson. He just kind of got his stick in a way and it hit off his skate. Look, the Penguins had two really dumb power play goals. I know that I think they were like two for five on the power play, maybe even two for four, but both of those goals were not power play goals. They were just dumb luck bounces. And look, in hockey, you know this, because you've been listening to the hockey Jesus for a while now, that You're going to get some puck luck. When you get some puck luck, that's a great thing. You just say thank you, and you don't ask how beautiful the goal was. It goes in the back of the net. It counts as one, no matter how beautiful or how dumb it is. So, you know, the Pens have gotten, you know, they got some luck tonight with those. But, you know, the thing that still bothers me, and it should bother you as a Pittsburgh Penguins fan, are those shorthanded goals. That shorthanded goal to tie it up, it's just classic. classic pittsburgh penguin hockey they are so terrible on the power play it's like it's like jerry doesn't even know how to stop a guy coming down on the on the shorthand to go anymore in that one was one that it was shot right around the dot there's no reason why jerry should save that goal but it's just like They just know teams are going to score shorthanded goals. And then once again, how do we get bailed out? Carter just goes down there and just a puck goes off of somebody's skate and it goes in. Power play goal. It's, you know, power play goal. Well, yeah, I guess technically it is a power play goal, but it was once again, dumb puck luck. But we'll take it. And then, actually, the last goal, Riley Smith's goal, Gino really worked hard in the corner to get him the puck. And he put it right on his stick and Riley Smith buried it. That's what they were doing early in the season. Early in the season when Gino and Riley Smith were really humming together. That's exactly what they were doing, all that stuff. And it's so nice to finally see, I think this team gets blown up. lots of talk about you know jake and so getting treated sometime tomorrow uh… i think i have i don't know what's gonna happen i would be surprised honestly if he goes to the teams that you know they're saying like edmonton the it they just the in uh… vegas actually made a move today they they went out and got uh… manta from uh… from washington so i don't think they're going to be i don't think they're going to be looking to get that Jake at this point, you know, there's some talk about maybe Lindholm was the guy that Vancouver picked up. There's some talk of Lindholm maybe going back to Boston and Jake ended up in Vancouver. I could see that happening. I think if anything's going to happen, I think he's going to end up like on a team like that. God forbid. I mean, it's possible. Most of the, unfortunately, most of the young, good prospects and talents all in the East. So if you really want to get some of those prospects and some of that good young talent, you're going to have to trade with teams like the Devils or the Rangers. And nobody wants to see Jake, you know, playing against the Pittsburgh Penguins in the last 22 games in another uniform. But if they want to get good return for him, that's what it's going to take. Look, the Pittsburgh Penguins basically are out at this point. There are 22 games left. This team still needs 32 points. You're looking at, you know, something around the lines of, you know, the Pittsburgh Penguins are going to have to go 16-6. At worst, 12-6-4. in their final 20 games. It just, it just, I'm sorry, final 22 games. I just, I just don't see that happening. I don't see where this team is suddenly going to get it together and they're just going to start, start snapping together like that. So, uh, But hey, we'll take the win tonight. Good win to get back off of the slide. 5-3 against Columbus. We're back at it again on Thursday night. Washington's coming into town. Actually, I'll be flying back into Pittsburgh Friday night, so hopefully the plane will have Wi-Fi. I'm gonna call United up, see if I can't get them to make sure I'm on a plane with some Wi-Fi so I can catch the game. If not, I'll definitely catch it when I get home, and I'll be back with hopefully some video on Thursday night. If not Thursday night, definitely Friday morning. So, Pittsburgh Penguins win tonight, beat Columbus 5-3, and remember, you gotta keep the faith, and no matter what, let's go Pens.
